Ctrl+Alt+Del

(2018) interactive multimedia installation

The project Ctrl+Alt+Del was developed in Slovakia as part of a study exchange at the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU/AFAD) under the mentorship of Jana Hojstričová.

Consumer society causes an alarming consumption of natural resources, along with their pollution and destruction. All of this disrupts natural ecosystems and leads to collapse, not only in nature but also in our living environment. One of the key resources for human survival is water, which makes up 60% of our body—yet we destroy it through chemical pollution, overconsumption, and building on aquatic areas.

The photographs in the light boxes were created using panorama software. I tasked the program with merging two incompatible images: the Bratislava harbor and a Danube river reserve near the city. The automation did not work, so I forced it, resulting in distorted, mutated panoramas. The central object of the installation is a photograph of water pollution in a lake within the Danube basin, printed on a smooth, transparent film. A video of calm, clean water is projected onto it. When a viewer enters the space behind the film, the reflections of the projection move across the walls, creating the illusion of light underwater. The atmosphere is completed by sound, which evokes the sensation of an underwater recording.
